A tourist who was on holiday in Thailand decided to add some adrenaline to his day and was encouraged to jump, with a rope, from a height of 10 stories. The rope was cut and, miraculously, the man fell into a lake in the area, miraculously saving his life. Of course, he suffered blows and bruises all over: “It was as if someone had beaten me,” said Mike, the wounded man from Hong Kong.
The tourist jumped from a 10-story high platform at an amusement park in Pattaya, eastern Thailand, after being challenged by friends, according to CNN.
However, his rope snapped just before he reached the end and the video shows him crashing into the water, with his back arched and his arms outstretched.
Mike, who declined to give his full name to avoid social media attention, said he was in a lot of pain after the crash.
According to Reuters, quoting local Hong Kong media, he said, “At first, it hurt so much that I was dizzy. My arms were stretched out, so my underarm area was badly bruised.”
“I didn’t know how many injuries I had while surface swimming, all I knew was that my body was in pain.”
Mike told CNN that he felt like “someone beat the shit out of me.” Staff from Changthai Thappraya Safari and Adventure Park jumped into the water and pulled him out, before taking him to a nearby hospital.
Mike sustained multiple injuries, none of them serious, including bruises near his left armpit, left thigh and calf and a swollen eye, according to Reuters. Doctors prescribed painkillers before he was released, the news agency said.
Mike said at the hospital in Thailand he spent the equivalent of 50,000 Hong Kong dollars ($6,370 USD) on hospital bills and physiotherapy, which was covered by his travel insurance.
He has since sought compensation from the park, but was only offered compensation for the jump and 10,000 baht ($293) according to Reuters.
Nithit Intim, the park’s founder, told CNN it would cover medical expenses but not “other expenses.”
Intim said the park has already covered the cost of an X-ray and ultrasound, adding that Mike he signed a liability waiver before making the jump, according to CNN.
