Henry Sanabria, the Colombian police chief, gave a strange interview that even got the president of his country talking. What he said? In essence, that many of the most dangerous criminals in Colombia’s recent history, such as the drug trafficker Pablo Escobar or the top guerrilla leader of the FARC Alfonso Canothey were fought exorcisms.
Sanabria, 51, held a note not free from biblical quotations. His office, filled with crucifixes, virgins and other religious symbols, was the perfect scenario.
The director spoke to Semana e acknowledged that for more than half a century both he and other police officers have carried out religious practices to counter the “witchcraft” of criminals.
For Sanabria “the existence of the devil is certain”. “I’ve seen it, I’ve heard it”, Henry said, crossing himself, as he did every time he hinted at something alluding to Mephistopheles during the interview.
Some examples
As we said: for Sanabria, Escobar, Cano and the military leader of the FARC, “Mono Jojoy”, were killed using religious practices. And there are examples. Of course: it is worth clarifying that they have been used many times remote exorcismsas the police were not always able to be punctual and act esoteric at the scene of events.
“I have been involved in exorcisms since 2007; that theme has been around for many years and goes back thousands of years; here at the Police we made it, of coursewith the accompaniment of the military bishopric,” Sanabria said.
When asked if exorcism was used in the operation against Escobar in 1993, the police chief replied: “Obviously”.
“For example, the operation against Mono Jojoy was an exorcism; in all operations against the FARC headquarters, an exorcism was used in all cases”, added the authority.
Once, assured Henry, a policeman “shot praying and shot down” to a Gulf Clan member who was reluctant to fall. The police chief said that his agents agreed to pray together to bring him down and that they succeeded.
He also said that he once protected himself from militants who were protesting against the government of ivan duke pulling the crucifix out of his pocket and putting it on. He said that after doing so, the protesters “gathered everything and left”.
The most shocking case that Sanabria told has center stage a criminal shot down and declared dead, but when the body inspection unit came to check his body would start crawling.
“it was supernatural; an agent, one of those old men from Medellín, told me: “my lieutenant, wait and see”; then he began to search all over the body; In fact he had a rolled up amulet, he cut it and died there; That theme has been around for many years,” explained the director.
Peter’s answer
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, came out to speak after the wave of criticism that there have been on social networks against Sanabria.
From Santo Domingo, where he is participating in the Ibero-American Summit, Petro said: “We know the general’s beliefs, but what we’re trying to do is ensure that those beliefs don’t affect the rules, simple as that. I think he was respectful, as far as we know.“.
In the note, Sanabria also declared himself against legal abortion and indicated to the LGBTIQ+ community that he is the transmitter of HIV.
