The only Yu-Gi-Oh card in the world will be auctioned in April.
According to Kotaku, an American game media outlet, on the 29th (local time), the only Yu-Gi-Oh card printed in 2005 will be on the auction market for the first time in 18 years. Yu-Gi-Oh card is a card based on the sensational popular cartoon ‘Yu-Gi-Oh’. It has been widely loved by fans of all ages from the past to the present.
The name of this Yu-Gi-Oh card is ‘Tyler the Great Warrior’. This card is known as a specially designed card for Tyler Gressel, a boy suffering from rare cancer.
Make-A-Wish, a sponsorship foundation that grants the wishes of children with incurable diseases, wanted to grant the dream of Tyler, an American boy suffering from rare liver cancer. The boy’s dream is that he wants to design Yu-Gi-Oh cards himself.
The foundation recruited Kazuki Takahashi, the original author of the Yu-Gi-Oh series, to make the boy’s dream a reality. The boy flew to New York and presented the two cards he had sketched in front of Takahashi, the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh! Of the two, the only Yu-Gi-Oh card was produced on the spot based on the sketch of the boy’s preferred card.
In the Yu-Gi-Oh card designed by the boy, a dignified and muscular warrior poses as if he is ready to jump out at any moment. According to reports, the boy is known to have expressed his wish to overcome rare cancer.
Surprisingly, just like the boy’s wish on the card, Tyler survived his long illness and recovered his health.
In the past, Tyler declined a collector’s offer to buy a card for $75,000 (about 100 million won), but in a recent interview, he said, “Cards have been my precious memories, but now I want to start a family and start a business.” He explained why he put the card on the market.
According to an auctioneer official, the successful bid price for the only Yu-Gi-Oh card is known to be unpredictable. An official said, “The starting bid has not been set,” and “the winning bid is in unknown territory.”
The card will be auctioned on the global commerce platform ebay on April 19th.
