Giovanni Leguizzamo Even -Luigi- was having a bad time. In his autobiography, the actor confirms that he was run over on set.

The first film in history based on a video game is also scary from a narrative point of view. Its deceptively simple plot hides all kinds of eccentricities, contradictions and last-minute arbitrary decisions..

The synopsis for sale on specialized film sites, such as Filmaffinity or IMDb, underlines that Super Mario Bros. is the story of two plumbers who “enter a parallel world to save Princess Daisy from the clutches of King Koopa and his army of reptiles .

This has to be taken with a grain of salt. Seeing humans descended from dinosaurs, shrunken heads, disgusting mushrooms, etc., Super Mario Bros. detaches itself from the video game to approach – deliberately or not it is not known – that of a lysergic fantasy.

In its year, critics highlighted the film’s visual section, but defended its narrative side. Shigeru Miyamotothe creator of the video game Mario Bros was benevolent: he said he “liked it” and the only thing he criticized was that it was too realistic compared to Nintendo’s success.

But for the talent there is no doubt that husband Morton and wife Jankel were responsible for making Super Mario Bros. a bad drink (Talking about “bad drinks” gives us the perfect cue to mention that Leguizamo and Hoskins used to get drunk together to cope with the experience).

Let’s go back to the examples: Leguizamo said he once saw Morton throw hot coffee on an extra’s head because he didn’t like her costume.

The tug-of-war between the duo and the studio over how the tone of Super Mario Bros. should be made into a film for adults and children at the same time, which ultimately mystified the cast. There came a point where the protagonists stopped reading the constant rewrites of the script and followed orders as if they were automatons.

Jankel and Morton have been accused of being abusive, bad leaders, bad communicators, hateful, arrogant and controlling beings. The crew referred to them by unsavory nicknames, and many had T-shirts made with rude phrases uttered by the duo to wear with impunity on their faces as they walked around the set.

On this, Hoskins believed that Morton and Jankel were “the son of a bitch and the cow”. Or, simply, “damned idiots”.

After Super Mario Bros., the directors never made a film together again.

Today, when it is said that Super Mario Bros. is the worst film in history, its character as a cult film is reaffirmed. This gift is from Illumination, the animation studio that wants to turn mushrooms from the Mushroom Kingdom into their new Minions.

Super Mario Bros. The film will follow Mario in his search for his beloved brother Luigi, whom he loses in the Mushroom Kingdom. Meanwhile, Princess Peach discovers her full power.

Behind the characters are A-rated voices: Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Seth Rogen Some of the actors lead the revival? movie of Brooklyn’s most famous plumbers.
