In a statement, the Ministry of National Defense stated that it would make every effort to respond to the contingency, saying, “We will maintain a high level of alertness and respond appropriately to protect Taiwan’s safety.”

The statement also condemned, “China’s conducting military exercises under the pretext of President Tsai Ing-wen’s visit to the United States significantly harms regional peace and stability.”

Prior to this military drill, Chinese maritime authorities banned ships from sailing the previous day, saying they would conduct live ammunition training in the waters near Fujian Province facing Taiwan Island and the waters near Mazudao Island, which is effectively controlled by Taiwan, from the 8th to the 20th. .
