On the 11th (local time), Pope Francis (86) was reported to be in critical condition.

According to Reuters, an Italian man who was widely reported to have last spoken to the pope on the 8th said the pope was unconscious and could have died when he was rushed to hospital two weeks ago with bronchitis.

This man is Michele Perry from Pesaro in central Italy and is known as a friend of the Pope. He is the brother of Andrea Perry, who was shot and killed by a robber in Pesaro on June 3, 2013, and is widely known for speaking with the pope regularly over the next decade.

In their most recent conversation earlier, Perry told Italian regional newspaper Il Resto del Carino, the pope told him, “In a few more hours, I don’t know if I’ll be able to talk here.” (Don’t say such things)”, he said.

Regarding the conversation, Perry told Reuters that the pope sounded better than when he spoke with the two men in January and that “he looked very tired.”

The Pope speaks regularly on the phone to comfort those who have suffered the tragedy. The Holy See (Vatican) keeps the call recipients a secret, but the Pope does not deny that he is talking to him. However, it has not expressed any position on the recent remarks by Perry.

Meanwhile, it is said that this is the first time that a pope has been found unconscious, which again raises concerns about the pope’s health. The 86-year-old Pope has undergone colon surgery for the past two years and is suffering from various diseases, including a ligament injury in his right knee earlier this year and confined to a wheelchair.

On the 29th of last month, the pope complained of breathing difficulties and was hospitalized in Rome, Italy, at Gemelli Hospital, where he was diagnosed with bronchitis. He was discharged after three days and appeared to be healthy, leading all Easter celebrations for a week, except for one late-night outdoor service due to cold weather on the 7th, the news agency reported.
