Apple was scheduled to change the pro and pro max model volume control button in addition to the charger c type mounted on the iPhone 15 scheduled to be released this fall, but the plan to change the volume control button is known to have been withdrawn.
On the 12th (local time), overseas IT media such as 9to5Mac and AppleInsider reported this, citing a report by Jeff Fu, an analyst at Haitong Securities in Hong Kong.
Jeff Fu said that he withdrew the application of the ‘solid state button’ that he was trying to mount on the iPhone 15 Pro. This button features a touch method with haptic vibration function. Apple planned to apply this button starting with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models so that the volume could be adjusted with just a touch.
It is known that the existing switch that performs the mute function will be replaced with a button, and the volume control button, which was divided into two up and down, will also be changed into one long button.
But Jeff Fu, citing sources familiar with Apple’s supply chain, said the new solid-state buttons would require three new haptic engines inside the iPhone. In this case, it is highly likely that Apple has withdrawn from the existing plan because it has a complicated design from the user’s point of view.
He predicted that the new solid-state button would be applied starting with the iPhone 16 series, which is scheduled to be released in 2024.
Mingchi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, an Apple analyst, also told social network service (SNS) that day, “We will give up the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max solid state button design and return to the existing physical buttons due to technical problems that have not been resolved before mass production.” revealed
Ming-Chi Kuo said the news was unfavorable for suppliers, as investors expected that the new buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro would boost Apple’s suppliers’ profits. However, he said, “The iPhone 15 Pro is currently in the engineering validation (EVT) development stage, so there is still time to revise the design.”
As a result, the currently expected iPhone 15 series design seems to go with existing physical buttons such as a mute switch and volume control up and down buttons. According to renderings leaked by IT tipsters and others so far, Apple will change the charging terminal from the Lightning port to USB-C starting with the iPhone 15.
In addition, instead of the display bezel being thinner than the existing models, the Pro Max model is expected to have a thicker camera system protrusion by installing a ‘periscope lens’. The periscope lens plans to support optical zoom that is up to 6 times better than before.
