Official visit: Lula landed in China and was received by Dilma Rousseff

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva landed on Wednesday in the eastern Chinese city of Shanghai, where he will start on Thursday A official visit two days with which it intends to “relaunch relations” with the Asian country, its main trading partner since 2009.

Lula was received by the former president, Dilma Rousseff, and on Friday he will meet Ji Xinping, with whom he will discuss, among other things, bilateral relations and the conflict in Ukraine.

“President Lula is already in China, he has landed in Shanghai where he will begin his state visit”, reported the Presidency’s Communications Secretariat, shortly before 12 in Brazil.

The Secretariat released photos of the president and his wife, Rosángela Janja Silva, together with Rousseff at the Shanghai airport where some children gave them flowers.

AND Lula’s first official visit to China since 2009, with an agenda that will begin on Thursday when he visits a plant of the telecommunications giant Huawei and will have meetings with representatives of other companies such as the electric car assembly company BYD, which will buy a plant that belonged to the Ford company in the state of Bahia.

Lula will also participate in the ceremony in Shanghai on Thursday in which Rousseff will take ownership of the New BRICS Development Bank

This will be the third official visit from the president of the South American country to China after those held in 2004 and 2009, during his first term (2003-2010).

The trip was described by the Presidency as “one of the most important of the beginning” of this new phase in power, which began on January 1st.

Lula, who arrives in China accompanied by a large following made up of ministers, businessmen, governors and deputies, she had originally planned to make this visit at the end of March, but was postponed after falling ill.

During the visit, around twenty agreements will be signed to strengthen ties in trade, phytosanitary protocols, technology, development, energy transition and other areas of collaboration within the framework of the bilateral strategic partnership.

One of them, previously announced, made headlines to establish the direct management of commercial transactions between Brazil and China in yuan“without the need for dollarization”.

Lula, what will invite Xi to visit Brazilhe assured this week that he was looking for “investments to create jobs and new production structures”, with examples such as highways or hydroelectric plants.

In an editorial published on Wednesday, the official Global Times newspaper described Lula as “old friend of the Chinese people” and he assured that his visit will help “the world to bear witness to the power of peace and development”.
