Eight people were killed in a shooting at a shopping mall in the suburbs of Texas, USA, raising the possibility that the shooter may have been obsessed with extreme rightism and committed the crime.
Local media such as CNN reported on the 7th (local time) that the killer, Mauricio Garcia (33), was wearing a suit with a badge that read ‘RWDS’ on his chest when he was shot.
‘RWDS’ is usually an abbreviation for Right Wing Death Squad, and is known as a phrase that extreme rightists enjoy using.
CNN reported, “The authorities are investigating whether the perpetrator committed the crime because of extreme rightism.
In addition, CNN reported, citing a senior law enforcement official, that “while authorities have not yet focused on a specific motive, investigators have uncovered the perpetrator’s extensive social media presence, including links to the extreme right.”
The Washington Post (WP) also said, “The perpetrator was clearly obsessed with white supremacy or neo-Nazi ideology. The motive for the crime is being investigated,” he said.
“According to eyewitnesses, the shooter’s vest was equipped with an ammunition clip,” he said. “This shows how much he hoped for a massacre in the most common place where Americans gather on the weekend.”
At 3:36 pm on Saturday, the 6th, a shooting occurred at a shopping mall in Allen, Texas, on the outskirts of Dallas, killing eight citizens and injuring at least seven others. The perpetrator was also said to have been shot and killed by a police officer at the scene.
Police found several firearms, including an AP-15 rifle and a handgun, near the murder site, and are investigating the details of the crime. The motive for the crime has not yet been revealed.
According to the United States Gun Violence Archives (GVA) records mentioned by CNN, there have been 202 mass shootings involving four or more people this year alone.
