According to the Dallas branch of the Consulate General in Houston and the Korean church in the Dallas area on the 7th (local time), Jo (38) and Kang (36), a couple in their 30s, and their 3-year-old son were killed in a mass shooting the previous day. The other 5-year-old child was taken to the hospital and is receiving treatment.

According to Korean media in Dallas, Cho and Kang are known as lawyers and general hospital dentists, respectively. An official from a local Korean church who said he had been to the hospital said, “It’s hard to say in detail because the bereaved family is in a state of shock.” The couple are second-generation Koreans and have American citizenship, but are known to have been faithfully active in the Korean church.

According to CNN on this day, as soon as the shooter got out of his vehicle, he fired at the outlet store with an AR-15 weapon and spilled more than 100 cartridges. The killer has been identified as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, but the motive remains unclear.

According to foreign media, the Texas investigative authorities are investigating whether the criminal is a racial hate crime, believing that the criminal has been involved in ‘neo-Nazi’ and white supremacist activities. It was confirmed that the shooter who was killed at the scene had a ‘Right Wing Death Squad’ (RWDS) badge on his clothes, which refers to far-right extremists. The Korean community in the United States is also in shock at the possibility that the killer was targeting an Asian. Police authorities are keeping quiet about the identities of the eight dead and the seven injured, including their race.
