Finland’s interim prime minister, Social Democrat Sanna Marin, announced on social media on Wednesday that she and her husband, Markus Räikkönen, They filed for divorce by mutual consent after 19 years together.
Marin, who at 34 became the world’s youngest prime minister in 2019, asked via Instagram respect your privacy and noted that neither will comment further on the matter.
“We filed for divorce together. We are grateful for the 19 years we have shared and for our beloved daughter. we are still best friends, close to each other and loving parents. We will continue to spend time together as a family and with each other,” Marin wrote on Instagram.
Marin, the most publicized politician in Finnish history, met her husband at the age of 18 whenboth were students in the city of Tampere (north of Helsinki).
After a long relationship, from which their five-year-old daughter was born, the couple they got married in August 2020 in Kesäranta, the official residence of the head of government, just eight months after Marin was appointed prime minister of the Nordic country.
Marin announced his resignation as chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) just over a month ago, after failing to reconfirm victory in last April’s parliamentary elections.
He then said his three and a half years as prime minister was “exceptionally difficult and difficult times”both politically and personally, and he assured that he tested their staying power.
