A female chef in Lagos, a commercial metropolis in Nigeria, West Africa, broke the record for 100 consecutive hours of cooking and successfully challenged the Guinness Book of World Records.

From last Thursday, the 11th to the 15th at 7:45 PM (GMT), Hilda Bachi started cooking at a restaurant in the Leki area of ​​the city and continued to cook for 100 hours without a break. It broke the current Guinness Book of World Records.

The cooking demonstration sparked national interest, with thousands of people gathering outside the restaurant cheering and cheering. When the cooking was over, they even sang a hymn to Bachi.

Guinness World Records tweeted that a Nigerian chef was aware of challenging the longest cooking record. Guinness said, “We will first verify all the evidence and then officially announce the recognition of the record.”

Bachi, the Nigerian chef who challenged the Guinness Book of World Records, said in an interview before the start on the 11th, “I want to show how hard-working and strong-willed Nigerian youth are.”

“Even if you want to work with any big name brand, (women) have to run a mile more than anyone else to be taken seriously,” says Bachy. She also said that she hopes that this challenge will make Nigerian cuisine more widely known around the world.

Bachi, who started cooking at 3pm (GMT) on the 11th, made dozens of Nigerian dishes. From soups and stews to various kinds of porridge, Jollof Rice, a representative West African dish, was also included on the menu.

Jollofrice is a spicy red rice dish made by adding tomatoes, peppers, onions, and various spices, originating from the old kingdom of Jollof in West Africa. It is a representative and popular dish of West Africa, and is widely eaten in Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

Bachi took a 5-minute break every hour or sometimes every 12 hours and used it for bathing, health checks, and short breaks.

Thousands of local residents and celebrities cheered at the scene day and night, and almost the whole country watched it through streaming on multiple online platforms.

When Bachi overtook the Guinness Book of World Records on the 15th, President Muhammadu Buhari also tweeted, “This is a great day for our Nigeria.” “Today marks the day when Hilda’s ambition, drive and perseverance have brought attention and awareness to the uniqueness and character of Nigerian cuisine around the world,” he said.

As the target 100 hours approached, cheerleader Kingsley Opoma, who was on site, told The Associated Press that he had no doubt that Bachi would break the world record.

He added, “The cheering heat here is so high that it must have had a positive impact and everyone had a great time. In particular, being able to eat food made by Bachi for free was the greatest joy.”
