According to reports, in July 2019, before the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), Daniels took a 10-day trip to Mussomeli, a small town on the island of Sicily, to check the condition of the house himself.

In an interview with the media, he said, “I was so surprised (because the price was cheap). I had to see it with my own eyes to see if it was true,” he said.

Daniels, who visited the small and cozy Mussomeli, said that the village reminded him of Brazil, his childhood home. At the end of the 10-day trip, he bought three houses that had been burned down at a low price of 1 euro (about 1,450 won) each. There was one condition attached to his purchase of the house at the price of only 4,000 won. To restore the original form of Sicilian houses that are proud of history and tradition.

He fell in love with this small town in Sicily, even though it was a short 10 days, including calculating the cost to restore the Italian tradition to its original state and looking at the house to be purchased.

Daniels recalled that time, saying, “The locals welcomed me as a stranger and offered to treat me to coffee.”

Since then, the remodeling was delayed due to the pandemic that hit the world, and construction finally started last year.

He plans to return the largest of the three houses he purchased to society so that it can become a resting place for local residents.

Daniels said, “Of the two houses under construction, one will be a space for me to stay, and the other will be an art gallery.” I will become, I will give back to the community,” he added.

On the other hand, the population of Sicily, Italy, a famous resort in the Mediterranean Sea famous for its beautiful scenery, is becoming a social problem as the population continues to decrease and the number of vacant houses increases.

In response, local residents, including the mayor of the local government, are encouraging foreigners to move by auctioning abandoned houses at low prices.
