Public transport services can suffer any type of inconvenience which, in many cases, alters their normal functioning. In Mexico City, the subway had to overcome the presence of a loose chicken on the tracks.

The MetroCDMX reported this Monday that he had to cut the electricity “to save” the animal. Thus, one of the largest transport systems in Latin America got into trouble due to such a curious situation.

“The Metro informs that the organization’s transportation personnel coordinated a power outage to rescue a chicken, which was in the platform area,” the transportation system indicated on its social media accounts.

A video released last Monday by Metro showed maintenance personnel and civil protection agents wearing helmets. chasing the chicken along the tracks with brooms, gloves and a garbage bag.

The bird, possessing enviable agility, dexterity and responsiveness, eluded several attempts at capture before a worker threw his coat over the animal as it roamed freely through a station near the city centre.

“Remember to protect your belongings as well use the pet carrier to move the animals company and avoid accidents”, the authorities also indicated.

The official messages have generated a large number of jokes on the networks, even if in the past the problems of the metro were much more serious.

In May 2021, the AP agency recalls, an elevated section of the tracks collapsed, killing 26 people and injuring nearly 100.

An investigation concluded that the crash was due to deficiencies in construction, and 10 former officials were charged with manslaughter, bodily harm and property damage, although none were jailed.

Subsequently, the capital’s subway was affected by a series of incidents which many workers attributed to lack of maintenance but which, according to the capital’s government led by Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum, were sabotage.

This motivated the official, considered the ruling party’s most likely candidate to succeed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador in the 2024 presidential election, to request the deployment of 6,000 National Guard troops early in the year, a measure he has caused a lot of criticism.

Since then, causes of accidents and delays have included a washing machine blade, a crutch or a beer can being forcibly thrown onto the rails, causing a major short circuit.

Chicken was, until now, the latest example and this week it has become a big protagonist of all kinds of jokes and memes on the networks.

Some tweeters offered to adopt her and take her to ranches where she was happy. Others have called him a “neoliberal” chicken, the adjective the president uses against his opponents, or “destabilizing”.

“Definitely he’s from the opposition,” joked another user.
