In November, a battle royale reality show that realizes the survival game in ‘Squid Game’ will be released. It is not the drama ‘Squid Game 2’ that fans expected.

According to GameSpot, an American media outlet, on the 18th (local time), the survival survival ‘Squid Game: The Challenge’, in which 456 participants compete for a prize of $4.56 million (approximately KRW 6.1 billion), will be launched on the global online video service (OTT) in November of this year. It will be released on Netflix.

‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ proceeds in a battle royale format in which only one survivor is eliminated in each round until one survivor takes the top prize, just like the game in the original ‘Squid Game’ drama. Battle royale is one of the rules of professional wrestling. Several players start the match at the same time, and the team and individual cooperate temporarily to survive, and the last person standing is the winner.

‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ was reportedly already filmed in England earlier this year. However, in the process, according to British tabloid The Sun in January, dozens of participants were injured in the bitter cold, and medical staff were dispatched to the scene.

A Netflix official said, “There shouldn’t be any injuries in this game,” but “the worst thing is to go home empty-handed.”

However, the release date of ‘Squid Game 2’ has not been announced yet.

According to the report, director Hwang Dong-hyeok, who oversaw the production of ‘Squid Game’, recently started test shooting for ‘Squid Game 2’ and is expected to start filming in earnest in July.

The Netflix series ‘Squid Game’ has won six awards, including the Best Director Award and the Best Actor Award, at the Emmy Awards, the highest awards in the American broadcasting industry. Among them, the Best Director Award was the first in a non-English speaking country, and the Best Actor Award was the first Asian actor to win the Emmy Award for the first time in 1974.
