A girl who had been kidnapped in the United States was found safely after a report by a store employee. The employee recognized the face revealed on the Netflix program and called the police.

On the 17th (local time), the US abc quoted an announcement from the US National Center for Missing and Abuse of Children and the Asheville Police Department in North Carolina, thanks to a report from an anonymous local store employee, that police found him six years ago at the age of 9 in Illinois. The missing person, Kayla Unbehaun, has been identified. Kayla was presumed kidnapped by her mother, who lost custody of her at the time.

According to the National Center for Missing and Abuse of Children, Kyla Unbehaun’s father, Ryan Iskerka, has not seen Kayla since July 5, 2017. It was the same day that Kayla and her mother, Heather Unbehaun, who had lost her custody case, visited Kayla and her.

Photos of Kayla and her mother who kidnapped her were released last November at the end of the ninth episode of Season 3 of Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries, titled “Kids Kidnapped by Their Parents.” Six months after the episode was released, an employee at a North Carolina store recognized Kayla and reported her, and police found her and arrested her mother. The employee is said to have told the police during the reporting process, “I think I saw two people’s faces on Netflix.”

South Elgin, Illinois, where Kayla was kidnapped, and Asheville, North Carolina, where she was found this time, are about 690 miles (1110 km) apart.

“I’m glad Kayla is finally safe at home,” Ryan said. “We will get to know each other again and start over.” “My heart was shattered when I found out her daughter was gone,” he said on her daughter’s birthday in 2020. In my future life, I would like nothing more than to get my daughter back,” he said publicly, expressing his will to find his daughter.

“Regardless of how old the case is, if you suspect that (you) recognize someone, I hope you will not be afraid to report it so that the police can investigate,” said an Asheville Police Department official. He said he was able to solve it.

The store employee who reported it to the police asked not to disclose his identity and the store he worked at, but revealed the reason for reporting, saying, “It was the right thing to do.”

According to the Asheville Police Department, Kayla’s mother, Heather Unbehaun, who was wanted for child abduction, is currently being held in North Carolina on $250,000 bail (approximately 329.32 million won).
