War in Ukraine: Russia bombs Kyiv day and night and the population is terrified

Several explosions rocked Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, on Monday full day, hours after another night offensive by Russia with drones and cruise missiles, when the war is already 15 months old.

Remnants of missiles intercepted by the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses fell on central and northern Kiev in the morning, with collisions in traffic on a city street and on the roof of a building, where a fire broke out, according to the city’s military administration. At least one civilian was reportedly injured.

The detonations terrify the population of a city without respite. Some neighbors, who had already been awakened in the middle of the night by the attacks, have once again suffered the scourge of Russian missiles.

“After what happened last night, I’m now scared of any siren. It was terrifying and I’m still shaking,” said Alina Ksenofontova, a 50-year-old woman who took refuge in the Kiev underground with his dog, Bublik.

The central station, Tetatralna, was filled with people seeking shelter.

“I heard two or three explosions, went to the bathroom and heard five or seven other explosions. Then I realized what was happening something terrible“, commented.

The Kremlin’s long-range bombing strategy led to many sleepless nights for Ukrainians.

During the winter, Russian forces directed their drones and missiles at power plants and other infrastructure. The ostensible aim was to undermine the Ukrainian resolution and force the Ukrainian government to negotiate a peace on terms set by Moscow, but the Ukrainians they were repairing the damage quickly and defiantly.

In recent months, Ukraine has received advanced anti-aircraft systems of its Western allies, which improves its ability to repel shelling by Kremlin forces.

Across the country, the Ukrainian Air Force said it had shot down 37 of 40 cruise missiles and 29 of 35 drones launched into Ukraine by Russian forces.

At least three civilians were injured in different parts of the country in the latest round of attacks, according to the Ukrainian president’s office.

Russian missiles hit a military airport in the western Khmelnytskyi region, where they destroyed five planes and damaged the runway, local governor Serhyi Hamaliy said on television.

The attack set fire to nearby warehouses that store fuel and military equipment, he added.

Russian attacks and artillery fire were also punished nine localities in the eastern Donetsk regionincluding the city of Kramatorsk, where the local headquarters of the Ukrainian army is located, the governor of the region, Pavlo Kyrylenko, told Ukrainian television.
