According to a statement from FHP, the man was traveling with his wife of 56 years and their 2 daughters, aged 15 and 23.
When the car stopped, the man got out and ran in the direction of oncoming traffic on a toll road, according to the same agency.
A few minutes later it was hit by a semi-trailer and paramedics rushed him to Saint Mary’s Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
His wife and two daughters were slightly injured.while the truck driver was unhurt, according to the press release.
