Kim Song, North Korea’s ambassador to the United Nations, said the Korean Peninsula would strengthen its self-defense capabilities, saying “the risk of nuclear war has escalated.”
Ambassador Kim said this in his speech at the 78th United Nations General Assembly general discussion held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on the 27th, saying, “The Korean peninsula is on the brink of a nuclear war at any moment.”
Ambassador Kim asserted, “As the reckless military adventures and challenges of hostile forces increase, our efforts to strengthen our national defense capabilities will also be directly proportional,” and added, “The Republic’s determination to protect the nation’s sovereignty and security is absolutely unchangeable.”
Ambassador Kim claimed that the heightened crisis on the Korean Peninsula was due to the United States and South Korea. He said, “Since the beginning of the year, the United States and the Republic of Korea have carried out joint military exercises that are clearly aggressive in nature, while talking about hysterical confrontation such as the end of the regime and the occupation of Pyongyang.”
He added, “The United States put its plan to create an Asian version of NATO into practice by establishing a triangular military alliance system between the United States, Japan, and Korea, and a new Cold War structure was established in Northeast Asia.”
In response to President Yoon Seok-yeol’s recent warning at the UN General Assembly about the possibility of arms trade between North Korea and Russia, Ambassador Kim argued, “The development of equal and favorable relations between sovereign countries is not a matter for the Republic of Korea, which is merely a colony of the United States, to interfere.”
He omitted the title of President Yoon and used the term ‘puppet government’ to refer to our government.
Ambassador Kim also expressed his dissatisfaction with the UN Security Council, which mentioned North Korean human rights issues. He said, “It is an affront to the UN Charter for the Security Council to discuss the human rights situation of individual countries outside of its authority.”
Regarding Japan’s discharge of contaminated water, Ambassador Kim said, “Japan has caused irreversible harm to the safety of human life and the marine ecological environment, but the Security Council is silent.” He added, “In order to prevent the tyranny of hostile forces, including the United States, the Security Council must “We need to expand the representation of developing countries (Global South), which make up the majority of UN member states,” he said.
