This is the first time that the three countries made a joint statement regarding North Korea on a multilateral diplomacy stage.

Since the leaders of the three countries declared at Camp David last August to establish an all-round cooperation and cooperation system, including security, this is expected to be an example of showing the world’s strong will to cooperate in responding to North Korea.

Ambassador Ham Sang-wook of Austria, representing the Korean government, read the joint statement by Korea, the United States, and Japan at the IAEA General Assembly held in Vienna, Austria on the 29th.

Ambassador Ham pointed out, “This resolution clearly shows that North Korea’s ongoing nuclear program causes serious and universal concern.”

He emphasized, “We strongly urge North Korea to fully comply with all its obligations under UN Security Council resolutions and take concrete steps to completely, verifiable, and irreversibly give up all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs.”

North Korea declared its withdrawal from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 2003 and rejected the IAEA’s safety measures in 2009.

Meanwhile, on the 29th, the last day of the general meeting, the IAEA adopted a resolution condemning North Korea’s continued nuclear development and calling for North Korea’s complete denuclearization.

The resolution urged North Korea not to conduct additional nuclear tests in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

It also urged North Korea to take concrete steps to completely, verifiable and irreversibly dismantle all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programs.

In addition, he requested that North Korea quickly cooperate with the IAEA to fully implement the NPT and IAEA security measures.
