Hamas’ position on attacking Israel is expressed through TruthSocial
Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on the 8th (local time) that if he had been the current president, the attack on Israel by the Palestinian armed political group Hamas and the war between Russia and Ukraine “would never have happened.”
According to the U.S. political media Politico, former President Trump said in a post on social media (SNS) TruthSocial that day, “If I had become president, the terrible attack on Israel, like the attack on Ukraine, would not have occurred. He posted, “Zero chance!”
Former President Trump’s statement of position came one day after Hamas launched its largest attack against Israel in decades by launching a series of rockets in the early morning of the 7th. Hamas invaded Israel by land, sea, and air and took more than 100 Israeli soldiers and civilians hostage, the Associated Press reported.
The current war between Israel and Hamas has resulted in over 1,100 deaths and over 4,500 injuries on both sides.
During his presidency, Trump pursued pro-Israel policies, including supporting Israel’s claim to sovereignty over the Golan Heights, recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
In May 2018, when the U.S. Embassy in Israel opened in Jerusalem, dozens of Palestinians protesting in the Gaza Strip lost their lives in the armed crackdown by the Israeli military. At the time, the Trump administration claimed that Hamas, which led the protests, was responsible for the large number of casualties.
Former President Trump, speaking at an event held in Waterloo, Iowa on the 7th, said that Hamas’ attacks were “the result of the United States appearing weak and ineffective toward them.”
“The attacks on Israel were carried out because we (the United States) were perceived as weak and ineffective and as having a really weak leader,” he said. The weak leader is interpreted to be referring to President Joe Biden.
