About 1,000 people gathered in Toronto hosted by the ‘Palestinian Youth Movement’
As armed conflict continues between Israel and the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau criticized this as rallies were held across Canada supporting Hamas’ attacks.
According to Canadian public broadcaster CBC, Prime Minister Trudeau said on the social media “This is completely unacceptable in Canada,” he wrote.
On this day, about 1,000 protesters gathered across Canada, including Toronto, and held a rally organized by the ‘Palestinian Youth Movement’. Mona Aysi (46), a Palestinian Canadian who attended the protest, criticized Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, saying that Gaza residents have lived under an Israeli-led blockade for 16 years.
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow claimed that the protest was not permitted, but police authorities stated that they oppose the glorification of violence but respect freedom of expression.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said, “It is deplorable that Hamas is glorifying violence even as it targets Israeli civilians, killing and kidnapping women and children.”
This evening, Prime Minister Trutto attended a pro-Israel rally held in Ottawa, Canada, and reaffirmed, “We condemn the terrorist attacks committed by Hamas,” and “We stand with Israel and support Israel’s right to defend itself in accordance with international law.”
Mayor Chow also emphasized, “We stand with you, members of the Toronto Jewish community, during this dark time.”
Four people were arrested at the event, but the event proceeded relatively peacefully, CBC reported.
Meanwhile, on the fourth day of the armed conflict, the number of casualties from both Israel and Palestine is close to 1,600. Israeli military authorities said that at least 900 of their citizens, including soldiers, were killed in Hamas attacks.
The number of Palestinian deaths due to retaliatory airstrikes is reportedly around 700. In addition to both sides, the number of deaths of foreigners, including American and French nationals, is also increasing.
