Piper Sandler Report… 87% of American teenagers use iPhones
It was found that 9 out of 10 American teenagers use an iPhone.
American investment bank Piper Sandler analyzed in its ’46th Semi-Annual Report’ released on the 11th (local time) that 87% of teenagers are using the iPhone, and 88% will choose the iPhone as their next smartphone. Among teenagers, 34% were Apple Watch owners and 42% were Apple Pay users.
Piper Sandler’s survey was conducted from the 4th to the 27th of last month among 9,193 teenagers living in 49 states in the United States.
The percentage of teenagers using iPhones is much higher than Apple’s share of the U.S. smartphone market. According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research, Apple’s market share in the U.S. in the second quarter of this year was 55%. It increased by 7% compared to the same period last year, solidifying the United States as Apple’s home market.
Earlier this year, an analysis was conducted on American teenagers’ enormous preference for iPhones. The British media outlet Financial Times commented on the iPhone craze among Generation Z (those born after 1996) in the United States, saying, “The social pressure to have an iPhone is at an insane level.” It was pointed out that within the American youth group, there is a strong tendency to view those who use Android smartphones such as Samsung Electronics Galaxy and Google Pixel as unusual, if not ostracizing, rather than iPhones.
Apple is also actively utilizing measures to maintain closure from other OSs (operating systems) through features that are only available on iPhones, such as iMessage and AirDrop, and, conversely, to increase homogeneity among iPhone users.
Meanwhile, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 series on the 12th of last month. Official sales in Korea will begin on the 13th.
