A sad story was told that when the Palestinian armed political faction Hamas raided southern Israel on the 7th (local time), a Palestinian paramedic who was at the scene died while examining the injured.
According to the Associated Press on the 15th, Palestinian paramedic Awad Daraushe (23) was dispatched as a paramedic to the Nova Music Festival held in Kibbutz Laim, southern Israel, and was guarding the scene.
The festival site was only 4.8 km away from the Gaza Strip, making it one of Hamas’ attack sites. Hamas members opened fire on festival participants, and 260 bodies were found in a pile at the scene.
Due to the sudden raid, an evacuation order was also issued to the emergency workers on the scene. But Darauche stayed until the end. His colleagues said he had to evacuate, but he said he was of Arab descent and said, “I won’t leave. “I speak Arabic, so I think I can mediate,” he said.
He was shot dead while bandaging one of the injured, according to a fellow paramedic who survived.
“We are very proud of his actions,” the Daraushe family said. “This is what we expect from him and our entire family. It means becoming human, remaining human, and dying as human,” he said through AP.
The AP explained that Daraushe’s family is from the Palestinian Arab minority and has been discriminated against because they are Israeli citizens or are of Palestinian descent. It is also said that they have been discriminated against by Jews whenever there is a conflict between the two sides.
The Israeli government, upon hearing the story, also began commemorating the incident. The Israeli government posted on “I hope he will be remembered as a blessing.”
