Apple CEO Tim Cook visited China again after about seven months. This visit took place while sales of the recently released iPhone 15 were sluggish compared to the previous model, and attention is focused on what kind of Chinese market strategy the company will implement in the future.

CEO Tim Cook announced on his Weibo account on the 16th (local time) that he visited Chengdu, China. Tim Cook posted on his account a photo of the night view of An Martyrs’ Church in Chengdu taken with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and mentioned, “I captured a historic photo of An Martyrs’ Bridge.”

In a Weibo post posted the same night, he mentioned that the popular Chinese game ‘The Glory of the Prince’ was born in Chengdu and said, “This game is currently popular worldwide on the App Store.”

He also posted a video of people playing the game and said, “Thank you to the participants who participated in the game at the Apple Taiguri Chengdu store.” On local social media in China, there were posts of people meeting Tim Cook in person and taking ‘selfies’ or eyewitness accounts of him.

This is CEO Tim Cook’s first visit to China in about 10 months since last March. This visit appears to be aimed at inspecting the Chinese market, where sales have recently been sluggish, and to understand the development status of ‘Vision Pro’, a mixed reality (MR) headset.

“We have high expectations for what Chinese developers are developing for Vision Pro,” he told China Daily. “Some of our developers are developing for Vision Pro in Shanghai and we have already seen applications for it.” He said.

Meanwhile, China’s state-run Fengpai newspaper cited a Counter Research report and reported that sales of Apple’s new product, the iPhone 15, decreased by 4.5% points in the 17 days since sales began compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 14. In particular, it was added that Huawei smartphone sales during this period surpassed Apple thanks to the launch of the Mate 60 Pro.
