Russian Foreign Minister: “This visit to North Korea will serve as an opportunity to reach an agreement at the North Korea-Russia summit”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited North Korea on the 18th and said, “This visit will be a meaningful opportunity to achieve practical results for the meeting of the leaders of Russia (North Korea and Russia) and implementation of the agreement of the meeting.”

According to the Korean Central News Agency on the 19th, Minister Lavrov said in a speech at a banquet prepared by North Korea the previous day, “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a truly independent nation that thoroughly protects its sovereignty and security without giving in to any pressure from the United States and the West. country,” he said.

He continued, “Russia (Russia) fully supports all policies implemented by the government and people of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, headed by Comrade Chairman Kim Jong-un, to preserve the country’s sovereignty and development interests.”

He also said that this visit “will be a meaningful opportunity to achieve practical results for the implementation of the agreement of the Roseau summit meeting and talks, which demonstrated the will to develop bilateral relations into a comprehensive and strategic relationship in line with the interests of the peoples of the two countries.” I was sure.

In her speech, Foreign Minister Choi Son-hee said that the friendly relationship between North Korea and Russia is “being further developed into an invincible comrade-in-arms relationship and a future-oriented relationship with a 100-year plan under the strategic decision and precise leadership of Chairman Kim Jong-un and President Vladimir Putin.”

He continued, “(Minister Lavrov) will expand comprehensive and constructive bilateral relations at a higher level in accordance with the historic agreement reached by the leaders of the two countries during his visit, and satisfactory results will be achieved to promote the welfare of the peoples of both countries.” Expectations were also expressed.

Foreign Minister Choi said, “The people of the two countries have become firmly united in the most sincere comradely friendship in the process of close support and cooperation, sacrificing their blood and lives in the struggle to realize the common cause.”

Attending the banquet were Foreign Minister Choi and Vice Minister Lim Cheon-il from North Korea, and Minister Lavrov from Russia, along with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko and Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora.

Minister Lavrov moved to North Korea after completing the Belt and Road Summit Forum and China-Russia Summit held in Beijing, China the previous day.

This is Minister Lavrov’s fourth visit to North Korea in about 5 years and 5 months since May 2018.

He is expected to meet with North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui to discuss implementation of the agreements reached at last month’s North Korea-Russia summit and President Putin’s return visit to North Korea. The possibility of meeting with Chairman Kim Jong-un is also attracting attention.
