Pal Red Crescent “Completely lost contact with the operating room”
WHO Director-General: “Concerns about safety of medical staff and patients”
Due to the Israeli army’s large-scale attack on the Gaza Strip in Palestine, communication methods such as electricity and communication were cut off, and local hospitals and rescue teams were virtually paralyzed.
According to the British daily Guardian on the 28th (local time), the Palestine Red Crescent, the Islamic Red Cross, said in a statement, “Israeli authorities have blocked all landline, mobile phone, and internet communications, completely cutting off contact with the operating room.”
The Red Crescent said: “This situation is impacting our central emergency number and hindering the ability of ambulances to reach the injured. We are deeply concerned about the ability of our teams to continue to provide emergency medical services.”
Aid agencies and human rights groups, including UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, and Amnesty International, also expressed concern that they had lost contact with local staff in the Gaza Strip.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), said in a statement, “We have lost contact with medical facilities, health workers and humanitarian partners in Gaza,” adding, “This siege has affected the safety and security of vulnerable patients.” “We are seriously concerned about their immediate health risks,” he condemned.
“We have lost contact with our colleagues in Gaza,” said Erika Guevara-rosas, senior director at Amnesty International. “Other human rights groups are also having more difficulty documenting human rights violations due to Israel’s communication restrictions.”
He then condemned, “This cut off of communication and electricity will make it more difficult to secure important information and evidence regarding human rights violations and war crimes committed against civilians in the Gaza Strip and to collect directly from those who have experienced human rights violations.”
He emphasized, “Internet and communication infrastructure must be urgently restored to enable rescue operations amid Israeli airstrikes and expanded ground operations.”
Lynn Hastings, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Palestine, also expressed concern through the social media
