Visit Hanoi on the 27th and 28th to discuss cooperation
“Providing eco-friendly solutions for production and consumption”
SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won met with Vietnamese government officials and discussed ‘green business’ cooperation, such as new and renewable energy and resource circulation projects.
According to SK Group on the 29th, Chairman Choi visited Hanoi, Vietnam for two days starting on the 27th. He met with Vietnamese National Assembly Speaker Vuong Dinh Hue at the National Assembly on the 27th, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Trinh at the National Innovation Center on the 28th.
Chairman Choi participated in the National Hydrogen Summit event and said, “We will support Vietnam’s clean energy transition by utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as hydrogen, carbon capture (CCUS), small nuclear reactors (SMR), and energy solutions,” and added, “Collaborate to achieve ‘net zero.’ “I plan to do it,” he said. He added, “Our goal is to build an eco-friendly ecosystem in the entire process from production to consumption together with local governments and partners.”
Vietnam has been engaged in various business and social activities since the late SK Chairman Choi Jong-hyun started a local crude oil development project in the 1990s. It is also a country that SK has used as a base in Southeast Asia. This is because it has strengths such as △a safe zone that is relatively free from political and security influences, △trust built up over a long period of time with local governments and companies, and △well-equipped infrastructure as Korea’s 3rd largest trading partner.
The Vietnamese government is promoting ‘Net Zero (carbon neutrality) by 2050’ as a key national task. In addition, the evolution from manufacturing to a high-tech field is accelerating. Accordingly, SK contributed to fostering startups and technological innovation by providing $30 million (approximately 40 billion won) to build a national innovation center.
SK set up an exhibition hall at ‘VIIE 2023’, which will be held from the 28th to the 1st of next month as the first event of the opening of the National Innovation Center. Approximately 30 years later, Hanoi, which has transformed into a cutting-edge future city, is presented in virtual reality.
