Earlier, former Vice President Pence announced his withdrawal from the primary and said, “We must vote for the candidate who can lead the country respectfully.” There was an interpretation that he was in fact saying that he would not support former President Trump.

Former Vice President Pence, who served as vice president during former President Trump’s term in 2016, was his running mate in the 2020 presidential election. In an article titled ‘Mike Pence Could Not Avoid the Devil’s Bargain’ on the 29th, the New York Times said, “The reason Pence’s election campaign (next year’s presidential election) failed was probably because of his proposal for a running mate in 2016. “It can be found in what is accepted,” he analyzed.

Former Vice President Pence has represented conservative Christianity while serving as a six-term congressman and governor of Indiana. According to the NYT, before joining hands with former President Trump, he was “dissatisfied with the freewheeling ways of Trump, a playboy entrepreneur and casino owner born in Queens, New York.”

In 2016, when re-election as governor was difficult, he accepted the offer of a running mate with the calculation that if he joined hands with former President Trump, he could become a national politician. However, the NYT said, “Pence’s decision to break with Trump and challenge Trump in 2021 angered Trump and resulted in him not receiving the support of Trump supporters, the majority of the party today,” and “Pence has been a member of the House of Representatives since his first election in 2001.” “We have entered the darkest period,” he explained.

Other Republican candidates who are one vote away are trying to gain support from former Vice President Pence. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wrote on Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley also said at a Jewish event, “Pence was a great volunteer and fought for America and Israel.”

Former President Trump’s approval rating still surpasses that of other Republican candidates. According to The Hill on the 28th, the results of a public opinion poll showed that former President Trump was by far the leader with an approval rating of 56.9%, followed by Governor DeSantis with 14.1%.
