Infosys founder Narayana Murti, a software billionaire known as ‘India’s Bill Gates,’ is causing controversy after he said, “Young people should work 70 hours a week.”

Murti is also famous as the father-in-law of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. Prime Minister Sunnack is the richest British Prime Minister of all time. This is because his wife was Murti’s daughter and inherited a huge amount of wealth.

Long before he was known as Prime Minister Sunak’s father-in-law, Murti was a living legend in the Indian IT industry, having founded Infosys, a leading Indian software company, and rising to the ranks of billionaires, earning him the nickname ‘India’s Bill Gates’.

However, he recently said, “For the development of our country, young Indians must be prepared to work 70 hours a week.”

In a podcast broadcast, he said, “India’s labor productivity is the lowest in the world,” and said, “If we do not improve labor productivity, we will not be able to compete with countries that have achieved tremendous development.”

He added, “I believe young people should work at least 70 hours a week for their country.”

After Murti’s remarks became known, support and criticism were mixed.

Gurnani, CEO of Tech Mahindra, another leading Indian IT company, said through his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), “He didn’t ask me to work 70 hours for the company. This would mean working 40 hours for the company and 30 hours for yourself. “If a person devotes 10,000 hours to a subject, he or she becomes a craftsman,” he said, agreeing with Murti’s opinion.

Sajjan Jindal, Chairman of JSW Group, also argued, “The five-day workweek system is premature for a developing country like India.”

However, the opposition is also formidable. Dr. Deepak Krishnamurthy, a cardiologist in Bangalore, told X, “I don’t even have time to socialize. He has no time to talk to his family, no time to exercise, and no time for recreation. The company requires you to receive emails and phone calls even after work hours are over. “After doing that, people are asking why young people are having heart attacks,” he said, denouncing India’s murderous labor situation.

Previously, Murti was embroiled in gossip in 2020 as well. He caused controversy by suggesting that people should work at least 64 hours a week for two to three years to make up for the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 lockdown.

If Korea’s IT guru told young people that they should work 70 hours a week, how would Korea’s 2030s react?
