Afterwards, Colombian judicial authorities formed an investigation team and began a search, and only the kidnapped mother was rescued. His father is still missing, and according to foreign media, the ELN kidnapped Diaz’s father.

Initially, the police said that a criminal organization was most likely the culprit, but a government delegation conducting peace talks with the rebel group said it had “official information” that the kidnapping was carried out by ELN troops.

‘BBC’ said, “ELN is Colombia’s main guerrilla group. “This group has been fighting against the state since 1964 and has about 2,500 members,” he said, adding, “It is most active in the Venezuelan border area where Diaz’s parents live.”

“Oti Patiño, the person in charge of negotiations between the ELN and the government delegation, said in a statement in Spanish, ‘We demand the immediate release of Diaz’s father,’” he said, also reporting on the current situation.

After Diaz’s team, Liverpool, recently won 3-0 against Nottingham Forest in the 10th round of the 2023-2024 EPL, they cheered for a quick resolution of the situation, saying, “We won for our brothers.”

Dias is a key goalscorer not only for Liverpool but also for the Colombian national team. He is one of the resources that enjoys great popularity in Colombia.

Accordingly, the kidnapping of Diaz’s father caused great anger within Colombia, and recently in Barrancas, Diaz’s mother and citizens marched through the streets to call for the safe return of Diaz’s father.
