Foreign media reported that Palestinians working in Israel in the Gaza Strip were sent back to Gaza as announced the day before on the 3rd.

Earlier on the evening of the 2nd, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “Israel is cutting off all exchanges with Gaza,” and added, “Israel no longer needs Palestinian workers from Gaza. “All Gaza workers who were in Israel on the 7th of last month when the war began will be sent back to Gaza,” he said.

Before the war, the Gaza Strip, where 2.3 million people live, had an unemployment rate of over 50% and 85% depended on international aid. In Israel, 18,500 Gaza residents obtained Israeli work permits and worked as low-wage maids, restaurant waiters, and market employees.

Every time they went to work in Israel, they were inspected by Israeli soldiers at the Erez crossing point in the northern part of the Gaza blockade before leaving Gaza.

On the 3rd, these Gaza workers were ‘deported’ to Gaza through the Karem Shalom transit point located in the southern part of the Gaza blockade line. In Gaza, other than the four hostages released by Hamas after the start of the war and about 700 foreign nationals who went to Egypt on the 1st and 2nd, not a single person was able to escape and had to suffer retaliatory air strikes from Israel.

In Gaza, 9,061 people had died fighting-related in the 26 days since the war ended on the morning of the 2nd, the Gaza Health Ministry said, almost all of them in retaliatory Israeli airstrikes.

It appears that more than 10,000 Gaza workers in Israel were mercilessly driven out to the ‘field of war’ in the Gaza Strip, where more than 200 additional people were killed in air strikes in the previous day. On the 25th of last month, 750 people lost their lives in 24 hours.

Those who were in Israel and faced war were detained en masse and kept under surveillance by the Israeli authorities with number stickers on their ankles.

The population of Israel is 9 million, including 1.5 million Arab citizens. There are 2 million Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip and 2.5 million in the West Bank.
