White House spokeswoman Carine Jean-Pierre responded resolutely, saying, “Many public opinion poll results will come out in the future.”

Spokesperson Jean-Pierre said that their opinions should be listened to with a grain of salt, and mentioned that ahead of the 2012 presidential election, opinion polls showed that then-Republican candidate Mitt Romney was ahead of Democratic candidate Barack Obama. The result was an easy victory for former President Obama.

He also mentioned that the Republican Party expected a big victory during the 2022 midterm elections, but the Democratic Party took power in the Senate and the Republican Party only held a slight advantage in the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, in this NYT poll, when asked, ‘Who will you support in a confrontation between former President Trump and President Biden?’, 48% of respondents answered that they would vote for former President Trump and 44% answered that they would vote for President Biden.

In a national opinion poll jointly conducted by CBS Broadcasting and YouGov, President Biden was behind President Trump by 48% to 51%.
