The famous American pizza chain ‘Pizza Hut’ has launched a new menu in Hong Kong, a pizza with snake meat topping.

According to CNN on the 8th (local time), Pizza Hut Hong Kong’s new menu, which will be sold until the 22nd, is topped with finely chopped snake meat, wood ear mushrooms, and traditional Chinese dried ham, and topped with abalone sauce instead of tomato sauce.

The pizza toppings are the same as the ingredients used in snake stew, a traditional winter food enjoyed in Hong Kong and southern China. Pizza Hut Hong Kong announced that it collaborated with ‘Se Wong Fun’, a snake meat restaurant that has been in operation for 128 years, to develop this menu.

Karen Chan, general manager of Pizza Hut’s Hong Kong and Macau branch, said, “This new menu reflects some of Seowong Fun’s secret recipe and mixes meat from Chinese snakes, striped umbrella snakes, and white striped snakes. “This special snake pizza has both umami and flavor. “It will make you feel the perfect balance of all flavors.”

Some gourmets in Hong Kong and southern China have long used snake meat as a winter health food.

In particular, it is believed that eating snake soup between fall and winter, when snakes begin to gain weight in preparation for hibernation, will improve their skin and keep their bodies warm. There is even a saying in the local Cantonese dialect that says, ‘When the autumn wind starts blowing is the best time to eat snakes.’

A CNN reporter who personally tasted the new menu explained that the texture of snake meat is similar to dried chicken. Rachel Wong from Hong Kong, who has enjoyed eating snake soup since childhood, told CNN, “The texture of snake meat is similar to chicken and the taste is similar to seafood such as fish. “I like eating snake meat as a high-protein food in the winter,” he said, expressing his anticipation for the new menu.

CNN reported that Pizza Hut Hong Kong’s new menu appears to be a type of marketing tool to generate buzz online.
