Former British Prime Minister David Cameron was appointed Foreign Secretary by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the 13th.

Conservative Prime Minister Sunnack took office as Prime Minister at the end of October last year, retaining the position of Foreign Minister James Cleverley under former Prime Minister Liz Truss. In the UK, which has a parliamentary system, the Prime Minister can immediately appoint ministers. Additionally, the 130 ministers, deputy ministers, and deputy ministers in the British executive branch are all members of the ruling party’s House of Commons and are appointed by the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Sunnack’s office said that just before that day, a proposal to appoint former Prime Minister Cameron to the Senate was requested by King Charles III, and the king gave his approval. Former Prime Minister Cameron has not stood in a general election since his resignation seven years ago, so he has not been a member of the House of Commons.

The BBC said that senators often served as British foreign ministers, citing the example of Lord Carrington from 1979 to 1982 during the early government of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

From now on, when referring to the Foreign Secretary, the British media dropped the name David and replaced it with Lord.

Former Prime Minister Cameron (57) took the lead in the 2010 general election and formed a coalition government with the Liberal Democratic Party, then defeated the Labor Party and took power for the first time in 13 years.

However, Prime Minister Cameron, who was in favor of remaining in the European Union, held a ‘referendum for or against leaving the EU and Brexit’ in June 2016 with the confidence of a single majority in the previous year’s general election, and immediately resigned when the result was 52.6% in favor.

Afterwards, Cameron did not run in the general election and retired from politics. Cameron, who had been concentrating on writing his memoirs, was embroiled in controversy two years ago over lobbying for a specific company and the company’s bankruptcy.

Meanwhile, on this day, Prime Minister Sunnack replaced Foreign Minister Cleverley as Home Minister and dismissed Minister Suella Braverman. Representative Braverman, a female, ignored Prime Minister Sunnack and made independent moves, including slandering the Palestinians, and for several days there were rumors that she would be dismissed as Home Secretary.

The media said that Lee, a lawmaker who ran in the prime ministerial race last year and is of Indian and African descent similar to the prime minister, believes that Prime Minister Sunnack’s base within the party is weak and anticipates a competition with Sunnack as the leader of the Conservative Party and is “deliberately acting as a maverick in order to be dismissed.” It is said to be a strategy to gain support from the right wing of the party.

Representative Jeremy Hunt was retained as Minister of Finance, one of the three most important positions in the British cabinet following Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs.

With the UK general election scheduled for December next year, opinion polls show that the Conservative Party is trailing the main opposition Labor Party by about 10 points.
