Installation artist Lee Kyung will present ‘Embrace of Lights’, a new media art piece commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and the EU, in Belgium. The 2030 Busan World Expo is also promoted through a video work that repeats every six minutes.

The Korean Cultural Center of the European Union in Belgium (Director Kim Dong-eun) will unveil artist Lee Kyung’s work at a media façade event through projection mapping on the Arc de Triomphe monument in Saint-Quentenère Park in the center of Brussels for 7 days starting on the 16th.

The music that accompanies the video expresses the identity and harmony between Korea and Europe in more detail. The Korean traditional music melody, which includes the sounds of our traditional instruments such as the gourd and the daebuk, and Handel’s Passacaglia come together, symbolizing the harmony and harmony between Korea and the EU. In addition, the voices of world-renowned vocalist Sumi Jo and countertenor Dominique Corbiau come together to bring the work to its peak.

Artist Lee Kyung said, “I wanted to express new possibilities through the harmony of two different concepts, such as light and sound, Korea and Europe, and the past and future.” She has presented media art works around the world, including at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, the Hermes Foundation, and the ZKM German Museum of Contemporary Art.

According to the Korean Cultural Center of the European Union in Belgium, Saint-Quentener Park is the largest architectural and cultural complex in Europe, built in 1880 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Belgian independence. It includes the park, the Royal Military Museum, the Automobile Museum, and the Royal Museum of Art and History. there is.

This park, located just 700 meters away from Schumann Square, where major European Union institutions are located, is famous for being very selective in hosting cultural events. This was the first media façade event to be held to commemorate the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and the EU against the backdrop of the Arc de Triomphe, which is a symbol of the park and means ‘the door to the future.’

At the opening ceremony held on the 16th, world-renowned vocalist soprano Sumi Jo will present a performance with Belgian countertenor Dominique Corvio. Sumi Jo previously concluded her debut 35th anniversary tour in Belgium in 2021, and has a deep connection with Belgium, including participating as a judge in the vocal section of the Queen Elisabeth Competition this year.

The ‘Embrace of Light’ media façade event will be held every evening from 6 to 10 pm until the 22nd.
