He then argued to jurors that his trip to Pelosi’s residence was part of a larger plan to end what he saw as government corruption.

In a statement lasting over an hour, the suspect, David DePape, tearfully confessed that he was originally a leftist, but switched to the extreme right after watching a YouTube video about former President Donald Trump.

Then, when he thought his bigger plan might fail, he hit Paul Pelosi with a blunt object.

In the afternoon, he finished hearings on a case in which he kidnapped a federal police officer and attacked his immediate family out of resentment for his failure to properly carry out his duties. His lawyer requested a retrial, saying De Pape did not target Nancy Pelosi and the charges do not fit his actions.

His attack took place on October 28, 2022, a few days before the U.S. midterm elections.

He said that he had gone to ask Speaker Nancy Pelosi whether Russia had intervened in the 2016 presidential election and that he had sent the questionnaire online in advance.

However, prosecutors pointed out that he brought a rope and a steel snare and argued that he had intent to commit the crime.

DePape testified that he thought he could get Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others to admit to corruption, then later grant them pardons from President Biden.

The testimony on the 13th was DePape’s first time publicly admitting his actions.

Paul Pelosi, who was kidnapped and tied up by DePape, managed to report it to the police, but when the police came, DePape hit him with a hammer. Then he said he would take you out, Paul testified.

Her husband, Pelosi, suffered two large wounds on her head in the attack and had a portion of her skull caved in, so she underwent corrective surgery. His right arm and hand also had cuts that required stitches.

DePape apologized, saying that Paul Pelosi was not my original target and that he was sorry for hurting him. When asked why he hit him, he said, “I was angry because I thought my plan to target Nancy had failed.”

He said the media continued to report fake news about Trump, especially CNN.

In his court statement, he told the jury that in addition to Pelosi, he also targeted a female professor specializing in women and sexual minority studies at the University of Michigan, California Governor Gavin Newsom, actor Tom Hanks, and President Biden’s son Hunter.
