President Xi arrives at the meeting venue in a black limousine made in China… Approach Biden and ‘smile’
“China-US relations must develop in a direction that benefits the people of both countries and fulfills its responsibility for human development.”
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on the 15th (local time), “China and the United States are very different countries, but they must have sufficient capabilities to overcome their differences,” and added, “I firmly believe in the promising future of the relationship between the two countries.”
According to China’s official Xinhua News Agency, President Xi said this when he met with President Joe Biden at the US-China summit held in Woodside near San Francisco, where the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is held.
“The relationship between China and the United States must be recognized and envisioned in the broader context of accelerating a global transformation not seen in a century,” Xi said. “I look forward to reaching a new understanding with President Biden on strategic and important issues.” He said.
He went on to say, “I look forward to an in-depth exchange of opinions with President Biden,” and added, “China-US relations must develop in a direction that benefits the people of both countries and fulfills its responsibility for human development.”
“One country’s success is an opportunity for another,” he said, pointing out that “the Earth is big enough for the United States and China to prosper.”
President Xi specifically said, “For big countries like China and the United States, turning their backs on each other is not an option. “It is unrealistic for one side to reform the other,” he said, emphasizing that “conflict and confrontation lead to unbearable consequences for both sides.”
Earlier on this day, President Xi arrived in a black sedan at Filoli Estate, a historic house and garden located on the coast of northern California, USA. According to the New York Times, President Xi used a black limousine made in China without a license plate that day.
President Xi’s sedan stopped at the end of the red carpet, and President Xi got out of the car and smiled at President Biden. President Xi and President Biden shook hands and held each other’s hands.
CNN reported that the two leaders of the US and China entered the meeting room after shaking hands and did not answer any questions.
