The President’s Office reported that the two leaders confirmed that North Korea’s launch of the so-called reconnaissance satellite was a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a provocation against the international community at the summit held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Downing Street. The two leaders agreed to work with the international community to condemn this and jointly respond.

In particular, regarding North Korea’s launch of a military reconnaissance satellite, the two countries agreed to condemn it together with the international community and jointly respond to it, calling it “a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a provocation against the international community.”

President Yoon explained, “Due to North Korea’s provocative action (launch of a military reconnaissance satellite), we suspended part of the inter-Korean military agreement five years ago and resumed forward-level surveillance and reconnaissance activities against North Korea.” At the same time, he said, “Let us strengthen information sharing and security cooperation through the 2+2 cooperation system between the Korean and British defense and foreign ministers, which will be established through the Downing Street agreement.” Prime Minister Sunnack expressed concern about military cooperation between Russia and North Korea during the meeting and said, “I support South Korea’s goals for a denuclearized, peaceful, and prosperous Korean Peninsula.”
