The Canadian Parliament unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday recognizing “(Russia’s) genocidal acts against the Ukrainian people” and citing evidence of “systematic and collective war crimes and crimes against humanity”.

“Today, every legislator in the House of Commons has supported my move to recognize that the Russian Federation has committed genocide against the Ukrainian people,” said Heather McPherson, Representative of the left-wing New Democratic Party.

The resolution states that the crimes were committed “by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, led by President Vladimir Putin and others in the Russian Parliament.”

“Mass brutality” includes “systematic examples of the deliberate killing of Ukrainian civilians and desecration of corpses”, torture, rape, and “forced transfer of Ukrainian children to Russian soil”.

While the House of Commons approved the motion, it accepted that “the Russian Federation has committed acts of genocide against the Ukrainian people,” according to the document.

The Ukrainian parliament took a similar decision 10 days ago.
