Southern Theater, training with mass mobilization of heavy weapons from 25th to 27th
As fighting between the Myanmar military and ethnic armed groups intensifies along the border between China and Myanmar, China conducted military training in the border area and released a video. It was analyzed that this was intended to create a sense of intimidation through force in order to prevent the impact of the ‘Myanmar War’ from reaching the country.
On the 27th, the China Central (CC) TV military channel released a related training video, saying, “The Southern Theater (Command) conducted three days of practical training in the border area with Myanmar starting on the 25th.”
The media reported, “Under the command of the theater (command), each force confirmed its cooperative operation capabilities and conducted practical training such as border blockade and concentrated firepower strikes.”
At the same time, the media released a video of a practical training exercise conducted on a relatively large scale using various heavy weapons.
Prior to this, on the 26th, the Chinese military newspaper Jiefang Junbao also reported that practical training would be conducted in the border area between China and Myanmar under the auspices of the Southern Theater.
The newspaper said, “Recently, an armed conflict occurred in northern Myanmar, resulting in casualties,” and added, “China attaches great importance to the conflict and urges all parties involved to immediately ceasefire and engage in dialogue.”
Fighting between Myanmar government forces and ethnic minority armed groups began at the end of last month and has continued for about a month.
On October 27, three rebel groups operating in Shan State, northern Myanmar, formed the so-called ‘Three Brothers Alliance’ and launched a surprise attack on government forces and seized weapons and ammunition. Although the exact number of casualties has not been calculated, it is reported that a significant number of government troops, including high-ranking commanders, were killed, and key facilities were taken over by the rebels. This attack was named ‘Operation 1027’ after the date it took place.
The rebels also blocked overland trade routes to China.
As the security situation in the border area worsens, the Chinese government is actively responding.
