While the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are fighting against the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, the son of the Israeli government’s war cabinet minister was killed in the Giza district.
According to the New York Times and BBC on the 7th (local time), Sergeant Meir Eisenkot (25), the son of retired Israeli Army Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot (63), died in Jabaliya, northern Gaza Strip.
Sergeant Eisenkot, a guerrilla reservist, was seriously injured in the explosion in the tunnel’s shaft and was taken to the hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.
His father, Reserve Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot, served as Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army from 2015 to 2019. He served in the military for about 40 years and entered politics last year. Currently, he is a member of the National Unity Party and is participating in the war cabinet led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Reserve Lieutenant General Eisenkot was visiting the war room in southern Israel when he heard the news that his son was seriously injured. The IDF officially announced Sergeant Eisenkot’s death this evening.
Prime Minister Netanyahu responded by saying, “Brave warriors and true heroes.” He added, “Our heroes did not fall in vain. “We will continue to fight until we win,” he said in a statement.
Former Prime Minister Yair Lapid posted a photo of the Eisenkot father and son wearing military uniforms and hugging each other on his “The fate of a nation is decided in one hug,” he said.
