Hotel “Malaysian businessman’s ring found in vacuum cleaner dust container”
Customers were suspicious of the employees at first… “I’m happy to tell you that I found it.”
Local media: “The statement is not enough to dispel all doubts.”

Two days after a Malaysian guest staying at the Paris Ritz hotel reported to police that his diamond ring was missing, the hotel said security guards found it in the dust bin of a vacuum cleaner.

According to the British Guardian and other sources on the 10th (local time), the Paris Ritz Hotel “received a diamond ring worth 750,000 euros (approximately 1.07 billion won) that a hotel customer, known as a Malaysian businessman, reported missing to the Paris police on the 8th.” “It was discovered thanks to a careful search by security personnel,” he said this morning.

The customer told the police that on the 8th, he left the ring on the desk in his hotel room and went shopping downtown and was gone for several hours. When he returned to the room, the ring was gone.

The day after the customer reported it, police arrived at the hotel to investigate, and the hotel said they were looking for all leads. It was reported that the customer was suspicious of the hotel staff. Paris prosecutors were preparing to take on the case if circumstances indicating a robbery were discovered.

A prosecution official told local media outlet Le Parisien on the 9th, “There may have been a huge loss incident.”

After finding the ring on the morning of the 10th, the hotel said, “We were very happy when we told the customer that the ring was found in the dust bin of the vacuum cleaner.”

In a statement provided to Le Parisien, the Ritz Hotel said, “We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of the Paris Ritz Hotel who worked with sincerity and professionalism every day and were also mobilized during this search.”

Le Parisien noted that the hotel’s statement did not contain enough information to dispel all doubts about what exactly happened.

This is not the first time that the Paris Ritz Hotel has been involved in an incident involving the loss of valuable items. In January 2018, an incident occurred in which five armed men stole more than 4 million euros worth of jewelry from a display case in the hotel. A few months later, an unnamed Saudi royal reported that approximately 800,000 euros worth of jewelry had been stolen from his suite.
