When asked who they would vote for if the U.S. presidential election were held today, 47% of respondents chose former President Donald Trump, ahead of President Joe Biden at 43%, according to a poll.

On the 9th (local time), the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that these results were obtained from a poll of 1,500 registered voters across the United States (sampling error ±2.5% points) conducted from the 29th of last month to the 4th of this month.

President Biden’s approval rating for his performance of state affairs was only 37%.

This is the lowest opinion poll result conducted by WSJ during President Biden’s term, and the atmosphere that former President Trump has the upper hand in next year’s US presidential election appears to be solidifying.

Even in a multi-party virtual match that included other candidates who would run as independents or minority parties, President Biden was found to be behind former President Trump.

Former President Trump ranked first with an approval rating of 37%, and President Biden recorded 31%. The gap widened further beyond the margin of error than in the bilateral match.

Independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. had 8%, independent Cornel West and U.S. Senator Joe Manchin each had 3%, and Green Party candidate Jill Stein had 2%.

14% of respondents said they had not yet decided which candidate to support.

WSJ analyzed that public opinion that the Biden administration’s policies are not helpful to one’s life appears to have influenced this low approval rating.

In fact, only 23% of voters answered ‘yes’ to the question, ‘Have President Biden’s policies helped you in your personal life?’

53% of voters expressed disappointment with President Biden’s policy agenda.

Half of the respondents (49%) said that the policies of the former Trump administration were personally helpful.

The negative response was 37%, and the positive response to the policies of the former Trump administration was 10 percentage points higher.

Former President Trump also surpassed President Biden in questions related to economic policy and the ability to resolve major issues, such as the war between Israel and the Palestinian armed faction Hamas.

Former President Trump, who has the upper hand in this way, continues his efforts to solidify his approval rating by touching on the controversy over President Biden’s old age every day.

At a town hall meeting with Fox News on the 5th, he directly attacked President Biden, saying, “I don’t think he is physically healthy,” and “mentally, he is just as bad, maybe even worse.”

As former President Trump’s approval rating continues to solidify, major U.S. media outlets and political circles are raising concerns that he could move towards a ‘dictatorship’ if he wins next year’s presidential election.

In response, he gave an answer that was open to various interpretations: “I will only become a dictator on the first day.”
