‘Suspicion of use of bandwidth’ treated as a joke
Russian President Vladimir Putin became a hot topic at a press conference on the 14th (local time) when he was embarrassed when faced with an artificial intelligence (AI) that had the same appearance and voice as him. After watching ‘AI Putin’ speak, he said, “This is my first double,” jokingly responding to some suspicions that he was using doubles for health and safety reasons.
According to the Associated Press, President Putin answered questions from reporters and the public for 4 hours and 4 minutes at the ‘Results of the Year’ event, a press conference and dialogue with the people held at Gostiny Dvor near the Moscow Kremlin that day. During the event, ‘AI Putin’, which had the same appearance and voice as President Putin, appeared on the screen. It is believed to be a deepfake video using AI technology.
‘AI Putin’ said, “I am a student at St. Petersburg State University. Do you have a lot of understudies? And what is your position on the risks of AI?” ‘AI Putin’ spoke while moving his hands naturally as President Putin usually does when speaking.
Laughter erupted from the audience who saw this. President Putin seemed momentarily embarrassed, opened his eyes wide for a moment, stared at ‘AI Putin’, and then wrote down his question. Then he said, “You can talk like me and use my voice,” but then he added, “But I figured out that only one person can talk like me and use my voice. “That’s me.” He added, “By the way, this is my first role.”
Suspicions continue to arise that President Putin, 71, uses a double when he is in poor health or at risk of assassination, but the Kremlin denies this. President Putin indirectly denied this suspicion as a joke.
