Found guilty of 1 assault and 1 harassment
Immediately after the verdict, he will be released as Marvel’s Kang.
Actor Jonathan Majors (34), who played ‘Kang the Conqueror’ in the Marvel movie, was found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend. Marvel fired Majors.
According to US media on the 18th (local time), a jury at the Manhattan Criminal Court in New York found Majors guilty on one count of assault and one count of harassment. However, he was found not guilty on other charges of assault and harassment.
Majors was accused of assaulting his girlfriend, Grace Jabari, in the backseat of a car in March. New York prosecutors allege that the assault left her girlfriend’s finger broken and injuries to her arm and ear. According to local media, the incident occurred when Jabari tried to view text messages exchanged between Majors and another woman, and Majors blocked them.
Jabari claimed he was attacked when he grabbed Majors’ cellphone after seeing him texting with another woman. On the other hand, Majors’ side countered that Jabari had falsely accused Majors of assault, saying that it all started when he attacked Majors in the car at the time. However, the jury did not accept Majors’ argument. Majors sued Jabari for assault last October, but prosecutors closed the case after finding there were insufficient grounds for prosecution.
Immediately after the guilty verdict was announced, Marvel Studios expelled Majors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Kang, whom Majors played in the movie ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania’ that came out last February, was a villain who would play an important role in the MCU going forward, but Majors will no longer be able to play Kang.
The New York Times said, “His future in Hollywood has become uncertain,” and predicted, “He could receive less than a year in prison.” However, local media generally believe that it is highly likely that Majors will be placed on probation. Sentencing is scheduled for February 6 next year.
