According to Vedomosti, which reported on this day citing multiple sources, President Putin’s election headquarters will be installed and officially opened in Gostiny Dvor, Moscow, the capital. During the 2018 presidential election, President Putin also located his campaign headquarters here.

Artyom Zoga, Speaker of the Parliament of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), Vladimir Mashikov, artistic director of the Olektabakov Theater, and Mariyana Lysenko, a doctor at Moscow City Hospital, will serve as co-chairs.

Chairman Joga is a person who attended the ‘Fatherland Day’ celebration event where President Putin announced his candidacy for president. Lysenko was recognized as a labor hero in 2020 for his contribution to overcoming COVID-19.

In the 2018 election, three people served as co-chairs of Putin’s presidential election headquarters.

According to Russian election law, before opening the headquarters, President Putin’s side must register a list of voters recommending candidates, open a campaign account, and pay rent to the Central Election Commission (CEC).

Gostiny Dvor is a multi-purpose building consisting of offices, a gallery, a restaurant, and a cafe. It is located near Red Square in Moscow, the capital.

President Putin officially announced his candidacy for the presidential election on the 8th. In addition, Leonid Slutsky, a pro-regime member of the Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament), was nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) and was added to the list of candidates.

Russia has restricted the political activities of opposition figures. Since the invasion of Ukraine in February last year, the level of repression against opposition figures has increased.

Alexei Navalny, who is serving his sentence, has been out of contact for over 10 days following President Putin’s official declaration of candidacy for the presidential election on the 8th. As his whereabouts became unknown, the Russian court also temporarily suspended the trial hearing.

Navalny is considered a representative political opponent of President Putin. He has been disqualified from running in elections since 2018 due to fraud charges.

The Russian presidential election will be held from March 15th to 17th next year. Russia also included Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporozhye oblasts taken from Ukraine as constituencies. The Krum Peninsula, which was forcibly annexed in 2014, will also hold elections.
