According to Politico on the 22nd (local time), former President Trump mentioned former Acting Director Miller’s name in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Huest.

First, five people, including Representative Tom Cotton (Republican, Alaska), former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien, Representative Mike Waltz (Republican, Florida), and Mike Gallagher (Republican, Wisconsin), joined the Trump administration. He mentioned that he could become the Minister of Defense.

In response, former President Trump said, “It’s a good list to start with,” but mentioned the name of former Acting Director Miller, who was not mentioned.

He repeatedly praised Miller, saying, “Former Acting Director Miller did a very good job at the end of the administration,” and “I thought he did a really good job.”

Former Acting Director Miller was selected as Acting President after former President Trump suddenly fired Secretary of Defense Mark Esper on November 9, 2020. Even when former President Trump’s re-election was canceled, he took charge of the Department of Defense and led it for about two months.

Although his term was short, he appears to have gained trust by faithfully carrying out former President Trump’s intentions, including carrying out additional withdrawals from Afghanistan and Iraq. When former President Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, the National Guard was deployed much too late and was criticized.

Regarding former President Trump’s remarks that day, former Acting Director Miller said, “I feel humbled. “He has been incredibly effective in protecting the American people and advancing our national security interests around the world,” he said. “I come from a family of public servants, and when I am called upon to serve, I answer the call.”
