British MP Neil Parish was suspended from the Conservative Party on Friday (29th) pending the outcome of an internal investigation for watching a pornographic video on his cell phone during a debate in the House of Commons.
This decision ended days of speculation about the identity of the MP under investigation, who finally decided to reveal that he was the person at the center of the controversy, and a spokesperson for “Tries” in Parliament explained.
Spokesman Chris Heaton-Harris said the 65-year-old Parish “was suspended from the conservative group pending the findings of the investigation”.
The investigation opened after the Daily Mirror reported that a member of Boris Johnson’s government spoke about the incident at a meeting of Conservative lawmakers on Tuesday night.
According to this statement, an unnamed MP sitting next to him was watching a pornographic video during a parliamentary debate a few months ago.
The debate was about machismo in the British Parliament.
“This attitude is absolutely unacceptable,” said one of the Conservative disciplinarians, who demanded “precautions be taken”.
Another newspaper, The Sunday Times, announced on Sunday that three ministers and two opposition lawmakers are being investigated for “sexual mischief”, a formula that covers acts of sexual harassment, voyeurism and sexual assault.
Those under investigation are on a list of 56 deputies who were reported to a bureau specializing in the registration of these complaints, which was opened at the height of the “Me Too” movement.
