On the 20th (local time), Guinness World Records revealed the five most notable human body-related records registered in the Guinness Book of Records in 2023.

◆Kidney stones five times the size of a baseball… bigger than your height

The first person introduced was Canistus Kunge, a 62-year-old Sri Lankan man. He had the ‘world’s largest kidney stone’ removed through surgery last June. The kidney stone found in Kunge’s body was 3.37 cm long and 10.55 cm wide, larger than his kidney. The stone also weighed about 800g, which is equivalent to five baseballs. Nonetheless, Kunge’s kidneys functioned normally. He has had his stones removed and is known to have no health problems to date.

Iranian Afshin Gaderzadeh (21), known as the world’s shortest man, won his second Guinness World Records title as ‘man with the smallest hands’. Afshin’s hand size (length from the tip of the middle finger to the tip of the palm) is 6.7cm for the left hand and 6.4cm for the right hand, which is nearly three times shorter than that of an average adult male. “I may have the smallest hands in the world, but my nose certainly isn’t,” Afshin and his family said with a smile after being included in the Guinness World Records.

◆American woman grew a 30cm beard due to hormonal imbalance

American woman Erin Honeycutt (38) entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the woman with the longest beard. Erin’s beard was 30 cm long, 4.5 cm longer than her previous record of 25.5 cm. Erin, who has been growing her beard for over two years, says she suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome. Polycystic ovary syndrome can cause hormonal imbalances, excessive hair growth, irregular menstruation, weight gain, and infertility. He began growing a noticeable beard when she was 13, which caused her to shave three times a day. However, after becoming an adult, she developed other health problems such as poor eyesight and sepsis, and after that, she no longer cared about her beard. She started growing her beard in earnest after she started wearing a mask due to COVID-19. “Growing a beard is a natural thing for me,” Erin said, but she is “glad to be recognized.”

Indian woman Smita Srivastava (46) has the longest hair in the world. Her hair is 236.22 cm long. She has been growing her hair for more than 30 years, since she was 14 years old. She said it reportedly took Smita up to three hours just to wash, dry, and detangle her hair and style it. “I will take care of my hair for as long as possible,” he said, adding, “I will never cut my hair. “I wonder how long I will be able to maintain my hair once it grows out,” she said.

◆Indian woman with 38 teeth… 6 more than the average person
